Bodda Getta Brew 12/17: Remembering Brother Chette
Today, we honor Brother Chette, who spent 26 seasons as Auburn football’s team chaplain before he passed away on Sunday.
Good Morning, Auburn Family. In victory or defeat, Rev. Chette Williams was always there—every practice, team meeting, workout and game.
"Being out there with them every day, going through the tough times and the good times, you have earned the right to be heard, and not demand the right," Williams said in 2017.
Brother Chette, as he was known to all, combined availability and authenticity to make an eternal impact during 26 seasons as Auburn football’s team chaplain and Auburn’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes campus director before he passed away Sunday.
“He was a foundational piece to who Auburn is,” coach Hugh Freeze said. “The impact he’s made on so many lives, we really won’t know the magnitude of all that until eternity.”

🎥 WAREAGLE+: TALKING TIGERS
Talking Tigers - James Armstrong
He became just the fourth head coach in Auburn Soccer history last week. James Armstrong took over for Karen Hoppa, who retired after 26 years on the job. After a stint as an assistant, then the associate head Coach at Auburn, Armstrong became the head coach at Mississippi State. This season, the Bulldogs won the SEC Regular Season Championship, and he was named SEC Coach of the Year.
Armstrong has strong ties to the Plains. He was married here. His wife is an Auburn graduate, and their daughter was born here. Now he returns to Auburn as the Tigers’ head Coach. James Armstrong is featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast.

🔼 At This Point, Do We Feign Surprise? For the third time this season, Auburn All-American and National Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome (Plant City, Fla.) was honored as co-Southeastern Conference Player of the Week. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound senior big man shared the weekly honor with Kentucky guard Lamont Butler.
With his impressive stat line versus Ohio State, Broome was the first NCAA Division I player in the past 25 years to have at least 20 points, at least 20 rebounds and at least five assists with zero turnovers in the same game. There have now been three individual performances of at least 20 points, at least 15 rebounds and at least five assists in D-I games so far this season – all by Broome.
