Good Morning, Auburn Family. Even without All-American Johni Broome, No. 1 Auburn looked every bit like the nation’s top-ranked team, hammering No. 15 Mississippi State 88-66 Tuesday at sold-out Neville Arena. 

“You can’t be anything but impressed,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. “The crowd was amazing. Our guys felt the energy in the building.”

Chad Baker-Mazara led Auburn with 20 points while Chaney Johnson scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots in his first start of the season. Denver Jones scored 13 points and Tahaad Pettiford added 12 points.

🔼 A Stroke of Genius. A stout week of swimming, including two podium finishes across two dual meet wins over No. 21 Georgia Tech and South Carolina has earned Auburn’s Warner Russ SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. 

Russ, the Jackson, Mississippi native was integral in the Tigers’ pair of victories over the Yellow Jackets and Gamecocks. On Tuesday in Atlanta, dialed up a third-place effort in the 200 free, hitting the wall at 1:37.41. 

🔼 Everything’s Coming Up Hoops. Two new student-athletes have joined the Auburn women’s basketball team for the spring semester as freshmen Yuting Deng and Julia Geis will suit up for the Tigers for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

Deng is a 6-0 guard from Hunan Province, China, who signed with the Tigers in November. She competed for China’s U24 national team in FIBA 3x3 competition and was ranked as the 27th-best player in China. Geis, a 5-10 guard from Roswell, Georgia, joined the program as a walk-on in late December and has dressed for the last three games. A freshman with a semester already in the books at Auburn, Geis was a four-year letterwinner in three sports at Blessed Trinity High School.

Q: You grew up in Auburn and went to Ole Miss, what made you want to come back to your hometown?
A: “Growing up here, I know basically everyone, so I thought I wanted a change of scenery and people, which is why I attended Ole Miss. It only took me a couple of months to realize how much I actually really loved Auburn and that I wanted to come back.”

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Auburn?
A: “Acre by far! I’ve never had something at Acre I didn’t like and the staff are always so sweet and personal.”
