Bodda Getta Daily Brew 7/1: Bo and Bailey's Baseball Brew
In an Auburn-made edition, Bo Jackson gets inducted into HOF while Bailey Horn gets called to The Bigs
Good Morning, Auburn Family. Auburn living legend Bo Jackson received a standing ovation Saturday from Kansas City Royals fans at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
“When I see people wearing my jersey in this day and age, it means one thing to me,” Jackson said. “That I did something right, and people still respect me for doing those right things when I was younger.”
In a pregame ceremony at Kauffman Stadium, National Baseball Hall of Famer member George Brett officially welcomed his former teammate into Royals’ royalty.
“I never saw anyone quite like Bo, and I doubt I ever will again,” said Brett, minutes before catching Jackson’s ceremonial first pitch.

🔼 Around the Horn. Former Auburn southpaw Bailey Horn has been called up to the Boston Red Sox, becoming the ninth former Tiger to do so since the beginning of the 2020 season, including the second this year.
A two-year member of the Tigers from 2019-20, Horn turned in a 7-2 record with a 4.70 ERA in 21 appearances and eight starts in his Auburn career. He was pivotal in Auburn’s 2019 postseason run, culminating in the program’s first College World Series appearance in 22 years. He gutted out a two-hour rain delay and ultimately pitched 6.0 scoreless innings in the regional final vs. Georgia Tech en route to being named to the Atlanta Regional All-Tournament Team.

🔼 Rise and Grind. Somewhat overlooked because of his size, the now-6-foot-1 Jalen McLeod’s first sport was basketball. However, his focus shifted toward football in high school as he got bigger.
Still flying under the radar coming out of high school, McLeod’s first stop on his college football journey took him to Appalachian State. His three-year stint with the Mountaineers not only resulted in 12.5 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks in 30 career games played but also better prepared him to take the next step in his football career.
In taking that leap, McLeod found his new home in Auburn thanks to the electric atmosphere of Jordan-Hare Stadium, the Tiger D and the overall culture being built by head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff.
Read On the Plains With Jalen McLeod for more on what his younger self would think of him now, his family and the Auburn family and how he’s “breathing football” as he enters his last season.
🔼 Common Surname, Uncommon Talent. Former Auburn men’s basketball All-American and No. 3 overall NBA Draft pick Jabari Smith is one of 15 athletes to be named to the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s Select Team that will train with the USA Basketball Men’s National Team as it prepares for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Before his time on The Plains, the 2022 USBWA Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Year and Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year helped lead the U.S. to a Gold medal at the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Belem, Brazil.
