🔼 Thorne In Their Side. Payton Thorne combined for 405 yards of total offense as Auburn defeated Samford by a score of 45-13 at sold-out Jordan-Hare Stadium on Homecoming. In a dual-threat performance that would make Cam Newton and Nick Marshall proud, Thorne led Auburn with 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries while completing 24 of 32 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown.

🎯 Auburn struck quickly on their opening score, moving 78 yards in three plays. After Omari Kelly hauled in a career-long 40-yard reception, Payton Thorne connected with Shane Hooks for a 32-yard touchdown to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead at the 9:31 mark of the second quarter.

🔥 J.D. Rhym recorded his first interception to end Samford's next drive. And then after an Auburn turnover, Jaylin Simpson intercepted a pass for the third straight game and returned it 12 yards to Samford's 22 to set up a Tiger touchdown—with his receivers covered on third-and-goal from the 5, Payton Thorne faked a defender and sprinted into the end zone to give Auburn a 14-0 lead with 3:04 left in the half.

💨 Auburn drove 76 yards in 13 plays to open the second half, capped off with Robby Ashford faking a handoff and keeping it for a 1-yard touchdown that gave the Tigers a 24-0 advantage.

Next up? Auburn travels to Texas A&M next Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN!

🔼 High Five. Non-conference complete. No. 24 Auburn volleyball leaned on its productive offense to sweep this weekend’s Alabama Showdown, capped off by a 3-1 victory over Samford (25-19, 20-25, 26-24, 25-11) to enter SEC play at 10-1.

In the closing match of the weekend, Auburn hit over .300 for the seventh time this season and the team's .386 average was the second-highest this season. Akasha Anderson led the way with 19 kills, her eighth double-digit kill mark of the season. Jackie Barrett provided 46 assists, her fourth 40-plus assist day of the season.

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

He does it all. As we said above, Payton Thorne had himself a day (or night) against Samford this past weekend, which got us thinking about some other standout performances on the ground and in the air for Auburn quarterbacks.

Our question today—who was the last Auburn quarterback to throw for 200 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game?

🐅 ONE BIG THING

As Gunner Britton walked through the sea of fans at Tiger Walk and into Jordan-Hare Stadium two weeks ago, he had to fight back tears. He had never experienced anything quite like it. They were cheering for him.

It was no different when he ran out of the home tunnel or when he blocked for Auburn’s first touchdown of the season, and 88,043 people roared all around him.

“For the first time it kind of hit me—I truly am an Auburn Tiger. Knowing what that means and how much faith people have in us. Coach (Hugh) Freeze talked about it. People have faith in us. For our fans, I don’t think they understand how much it means. It really does help.”
