Bodda Getta Daily Brew 9/5: Auburn Vs. Everybody

Auburn Men's Basketball is facing one of the nation's toughest 2024-25 schedules

Good Morning, Auburn Family. The defending Southeastern Conference Tournament champion Auburn men’s basketball team is looking to put together another banner year by playing one of the nation’s toughest schedules in 2024-25.

“This is by far the toughest schedule in Auburn Basketball history and probably in my 29 years as a head coach,” Bruce Pearl said. “It sends a statement to our players that I believe in them, and in the world of college basketball, we want to be a perennial Top 25 program. More than anybody, I am happy for our student-athletes that they get to play the very best in college basketball.”

🔼 All Eyes on Men’s Golf. Football is generally at the forefront during the fall, but Auburn Men’s Golf is here to say, “Hey, not so fast.”

First and foremost, Auburn’s Jackson Koivun and Brendan Valdes were named to the Fred Haskins Award Fall Watch List ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Auburn is one of six schools with multiple representatives on the list. Koivun and Valdes account for two of 10 players from the SEC.

And, with less than a week away from the start of the 2024-25 season, Auburn Men’s Golf was named the No. 1 team in the country via Golf Channel’s annual preseason rankings. It’s not all that surprising, considering last year, the Tigers pieced together one of the most magical runs in the history of the sport. They racked up 10 team wins, including seven in a row that culminated in the program’s first NCAA Championship.

🔼  Not to Be Outdone. Auburn Women’s Golf is also making sure to grab the spotlight. Sophomore Anna Davis has been named to the 2024-2025 Fall ANNIKA Award Watch List. The announcement came one day after Davis was tabbed first-team preseason All-American by Golf Channel and Golfweek.

Davis’ name is one of the 25 on the watch list after a stellar freshman season that earned her second-team All-American and second-team All-SEC honors.

🔼 Tharp Speed. It’s his world, and we’re just living in it. Congratulations to Ja’Kobe Tharp, who won gold in the 110m hurdles at the World Athletics U20 Championships (13.05).

🔼 The Quest to Remain Pitch Perfect. Another double dose of nonconference action is on deck for No. 13 Auburn soccer as the team travels to in-state rival Samford today before returning home to host No. 17 Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Kickoff in Birmingham is set for 6 p.m. CT tonight, while Sunday’s contest with the Buckeyes starts at 11 a.m. CT.

“This will be our toughest weekend of the season so far,” Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said.

Thursday’s match in Birmingham will be streamed via ESPN+. Sunday’s clash will air live on the SEC Network.

Matches at the Auburn Soccer Complex are free and open to the public.

🔼 Meeting the Mustangs Head-On. Head coach Brent Crouch and the Auburn Volleyball have little time to rest as the Tigers welcome Cal Poly to Neville Arena tonight for its latest non-conference clash. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT, and admission is free.

Crouch and the Tigers are 4-0 to start the 2024 campaign and have dropped just one set in the process. Auburn has started with four straight wins in the last four seasons under Crouch.
