📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Coop Scoop. Graduate shortstop Cooper Weiss has been named a semifinalist for the 2024 Brooks Wallace Award. Weiss is one of 29 shortstops nationally, including four from the Southeastern Conference, to be named to the list. The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this season.

He leads the SEC and ranks 23rd in the country with 27 stolen bases this season, the most by an Auburn player since Jay Gonzalez (30) in 2012. In his lone season on The Plains, Weiss has started at shortstop in all but one game this year, hitting .278 while ranking top three on the team in runs (41), hits (49), doubles (10), home runs (eight) and RBI (35).

🔼 No Hurdles of Doubt. Cut from his seventh-grade basketball team, Ja'Kobe Tharp decided to give track and field a try. One year later, Tharp won the middle school hurdles Tennessee state championship, a feat he repeated as a junior and senior at Rockvale High School near Murfreesboro.

After pandemic school closures canceled his ninth-grade season, Tharp tried out for basketball as a sophomore and made the team.

"His athletic ability is what drew me to him out of high school," Auburn sprints coach Ken Harnden said. "I watched him dunk from the free-throw line in a game and do crazy stuff on the basketball court.”

Tharp displayed his elite talent in his first race last year by winning his 110m hurdles race in a landslide. He won the gold medal at the SEC Championships in this event and broke the American Junior record in the process.

🔼 This is for all the Golf Balls. No. 6 Women's Golf will make its 21st appearance at the NCAA Championship today at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa Champions Course in Carlsbad, California. The Tigers qualified for the field of 30 teams after winning the NCAA Auburn Regional on May 8. Auburn will begin its opening round just after 2 p.m. CT on Friday paired with players from LSU and UCLA.

The championship format will include 30 teams and six individuals completing 54 holes of stroke play on Friday-Sunday. Then the top 15 teams, along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team, will compete in one additional day of stroke play on Monday to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke play individual champion.

🔼 The Aptly Named Cannon and Crew. Aided by two late sparking defensive plays from second baseman Caden Green, Tanner Bauman and Will Cannon pitched Auburn past Alabama 4-2 Thursday at Plainsman Park to open the season-ending series.

The win marked Auburn's third straight and its fifth in the last six contests dating back to the series finale vs. Ole Miss.

With an opportunity to secure the rivalry series, Chase Allsup is scheduled to start for the Tigers tonight at 6 p.m. CT.

Couple things in the Ja'Kobe Tharp story.

I misspelled Harnden (not Harden - needs an extra "n").

Instead of the last graph being the viral TikTok, I suggest substituting to include the fact that

he won the gold medal at SEC Championships in 110m hurdles (and broke the American Junior record in the process).
