Bodda Getta Brew 9/27: A Not-So-Humble Brag

Today, we're celebrating the Tigers going off across the board.

Good morning. A more-than-impressive debut for men’s and women’s golf. Three recent comeback wins for women’s volleyball. A total of 10 singles victories in women’s tennis during the Fall Ranked Spotlight. And yesterday, the Auburn men’s basketball team—who were last year’s regular season champs—began practicing.

As Penny Lane said in the movie Almost Famous, “It’s all happening.”

🔼 A Little Birdie Told Us. No. 4 Auburn men's golf delivered the low round yesterday at SEC Fall Preview to cruise to a 13-shot victory in stroke play and clinch the top seed in the championship match. Auburn will face No. 7 Vanderbilt for all the marbles this morning beginning at 9:20 a.m. CT.

Ryan Eshleman will kickstart the first match, teeing off hole one in the 9:20 a.m. CT timeslot against the Commodores' Jackson Van Paris. Following Eshleman in 10-minute intervals will be Reed Lotter vs. Matthew Riedel, Jackson Koivun vs. Gordon Sargent, Brendan Valdes vs. Cole Sherwood, and J.M. Butler vs. William Moll.

Vanderbilt shot 28-under to overtake Arkansas in the final round for the No. 2 seed. Sargent leads the Commodores and is the top-ranked amateur golfer in the world. He finished second in stroke play at 14-under.

🔼 Down But Never Out. If you love a good underdog story, you’re going to want to pay attention to this year’s Auburn volleyball team. The No. 24 Tigers recently earned its first SEC victory of the season against Ole Miss, and this marked the team’s third comeback win after losing the first set this season.

But there’s no time for them to bask in their own mini-Cinderella Story, as they face another arduous task against No. 14 Arkansas tonight.

🏐 First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT and the match is slated to be broadcast live on the SEC Network.

🔼 Buzz Worthy. Auburn soccer’s Anna Haddock’s recent play has been so impressive that she landed an Honorable Mention on Top Drawer Soccer’s recent Player of the Week list.

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

Agent zero. The SEC has traditionally been known for its stingy defenses, and that shutdown superiority can be traced all the way back to the early 1900’s.

Ahead of the latest chapter in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry this weekend—out of 127 games between Auburn and Georgia has resulted in 0-0 ties.

🐅 ONE BIG THING

Court is in session. Six weeks prior to tipping off the 2023-24 season, Auburn began practice yesterday—the next step in preparing a team that blends proven performers with promising newcomers.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Five games

A scoreless game between two rivals had to have been tough, but when one considers Auburn and Georgia have played each other 127 times—five games isn’t that far out of the realm of possibility.

And thankfully, the last time each side failed to score was all the way back in 1937.

🐅 Have a great Wednesday, y’all!
